Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) dates back thousands of years and is a system of primary health care that includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and remedial massage (anmo tui Na). In Australia, the most popular forms of TCM health care are acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

    The primary feature of modern TCM is the premise that good health relies on the restoration and maintenance of harmony, balance and order to the individual. TCM takes a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as it does on the treatment.

  • When healthy, an abundant supply of qi (pronounced chee) or ‘life energy’ flows through the body’s meridians (a network of unseen channels through the body). If the flow of qi becomes blocked or there is an inadequate supply of qi, then the body fails to maintain harmony, balance and order and disease or illness follows. This can result from stress, overwork, poor diet, disease pathogens, environmental conditions and other lifestyle factors.

    TCM treatments focus on the underlying condition as well as treating the presenting symptoms. Treatments work on the basis of individualised formulae for each patient.

  • Cosmetic acupuncture also known as facial rejuvenation is a safe, gentle and natural anti-aging practice to enhance beauty and wellbeing. It is also a constitutional treatment, which means it will also address the health of the patient as a whole. The treatment is used to soften fine lines and wrinkles, lift sagging, increase firmness, tone and improve circulation for bright, even and hydrated skin.

  • Very fine needles that are made especially for the face are inserted using different techniques on different areas of the face to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. When the face is needled it promotes qi and blood circulation and carries nutrients to the facial cells. The insertion of these needles will cause what we call a “micro trauma” to the face therefore the stimulation of fibroblasts can help produce collagen and elastin which are the building blocks of the skin.

  • Treatment plans will vary patient to patient depending on a number of factors such as age, lifestyle and skin type.

    •A general prescription is a course of 10-12 sessions, one per week/fortnight for the duration of the treatment course. Then a maintenance appointment is recommended every 4-6weeks.

    Changes will usually be noticeable by week 3-4.

    Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, safe and gentle procedure that deeply exfoliates and polishes the skin to stimulate new cell growth and the renewal of collagen. Using a gentle vacuuming system and diamond tips, microdermabrasion removes dull, dead skin cells and unclogs pores.
